Early in the resurgance of witchcraft,  a warlock by the name of Fandriu saved the life of a few of the Royal Guardians of Xorinth,  after they had contracted an unknown affliction following a quest into the distant lands on the west end of the remains of the Prandoran Empire.  This skill helped witchcraft reach the approval it now has.
